How the Carling Currie Cup works

The 2026 Premier Division featured eight provincial sides. Four teams entered through the SA Cup qualification pathway, joining the Bulls, Sharks, Lions and Western Province/Stormers programme. Every team played the other seven once, making 28 league matches over seven rounds.

The four highest-ranked sides reached the semi-finals: Griquas hosted Lions, while Cheetahs hosted Pumas. The winners advanced to the final, hosted by Griquas as the higher-ranked qualifier. The Currie Cup First Division and SA Cup are separate tournaments; their results do not count towards this league table.

2026 season in context

Griquas finished top after six wins from seven matches and a +128 points difference, then defeated the Lions 52–12 in the semi-final. Pumas overturned Cheetahs 27–24 away in Bloemfontein, but Griquas prevailed 23–16 in the Kimberley final. Sharks XV and Lions each recorded one drawn league match; Bulls XV finished without a win.
