How the senior team fits into Italian rugby
The Nazionale Italiana Maggiore Maschile, nicknamed the Azzurri, is the senior men’s rugby union side governed by the Federazione Italiana Rugby (FIR). Its head coach is Gonzalo Quesada, as confirmed by FIR’s 2026 international squad announcements. Team selections and captaincy can change between international windows, so this page does not present a permanent current squad without a dated selection.
In the first Nations Championship, Italy faced Japan, New Zealand and Australia away during July 2026 and hosts South Africa, Argentina and Fiji in November. The competition brings together six northern and six southern hemisphere teams, followed by finals in London on 27–29 November 2026. These fixtures are not additional Six Nations rounds.
The 2027 Six Nations is a five-match championship against Scotland, Ireland, England, France and Wales. Italy has three confirmed home games in Rome and two away matches. The Six Nations has its own table, points and tournament history; it is separate from the Nations Championship.
Benetton Rugby and Zebre Parma represent Italy in the professional United Rugby Championship; domestic Serie A Elite, Serie A, Serie B and Serie C clubs are a different system. Players may be selected for the national side from various clubs, including abroad. RugbyOrbit links these areas without equating club standings to national-team results.
