Official team site ↗How Scottish rugby works
Professional and international club rugby: Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby participate in the 16-team URC, alongside clubs from Ireland, Wales, Italy and South Africa. Their Scottish derby fixtures also form part of the 1872 Cup rivalry. European club competitions are separate from the URC standings. Neither professional team competes in the Arnold Clark domestic men’s Premiership.
Men’s domestic leagues: the ten-club Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership is the highest level of Scottish club rugby outside the two professional teams. National Leagues Divisions 1, 2, 3 and 4 follow beneath it; below those come regionally organised leagues and reserve competitions. Scottish Rugby released the full 2026/27 fixture lists in June. The top four Premiership clubs enter the Scottish Cup at the quarter-final stage, while the National League Cup is a separate tournament.
Women’s domestic rugby: the eight-club Arnold Clark Women’s Premiership begins with a single round of fixtures between every team, then divides into a top four and bottom four. The two top teams after the upper-stage matches contest a final. A new Women’s National League begins in 2026/27 to support progression below the Premiership, with separate regional leagues. The Sarah Beaney Cup is a domestic women’s knockout competition, not part of the league standings.
Cross-border women’s rugby: Edinburgh Rugby Women and Glasgow Warriors Women represent Scotland in the 2026/27 Celtic Challenge against sides from Ireland and Wales. The competition begins 5 December 2026, runs ten rounds, then has semifinals in March and a final later that month. Scotland’s men’s and women’s Six Nations programmes concern national teams, not the domestic league structure.
