How the Shute Shield works

The 2026 Shute Shield featured 12 first-grade clubs from Sydney and the Hunter region. Each club played 18 regular-season matches over 18 competition rounds, producing 108 league fixtures. Matches in other grades are separate and are not included here.

The top six clubs qualified for the finals series, which began on 22 August and concluded with the Grand Final on 5 September 2026. RugbyOrbit lists the six published finals scores by their recorded stage. The available score services contain an apparent inconsistency in the Gordon–Sydney University qualification sequence, so no unsupported progression bracket is asserted.

2026 season snapshot

Eastern Suburbs finished first with 16 wins from 18 and 81 competition points, scoring 759 and conceding 339. Warringah were runners-up in both the ladder and Grand Final. Southern Districts ended the season without a win; Sydney University and Northern Suburbs recorded notable regular-season victories, with the latter finishing outside the finals despite ten wins.

Sources, verification and data notes

The complete set of 108 first-grade league scores was reconstructed from the 2026 match-result archive and cross-checked against club records. All club played, win, draw and loss figures reconcile with the published 12-team ladder; the final and other knockout scores were checked against independent results and the Australian Rugby report. Some results services show a Sydney University semi-final appearance despite listing a loss in Finals Week 1; the page preserves the reported fixtures without inventing a bracket explanation.
