How the Premiership works

Ten teams play each other home and away, giving each club 18 regular-season matches and 90 fixtures across the league. A win is worth four league points; teams can also earn points for four tries or a defeat by no more than seven points.

After the league stage, the leading four enter championship semi-finals: first hosts fourth and second hosts third. The winners contest the Premiership Final, with the higher-ranked finalist hosting. Tenth place is relegated to National League 1; ninth plays the National League 1 runner-up in a survival play-off, hosted by the National League 1 club.

The standings after six scheduled rounds

Melrose lead on 26 league points, one ahead of defending champions Ayr. Currie Chieftains have 21 points from five games, while Heriot’s Rugby and Watsonians both have 20. Glasgow Hawks are still seeking their first win.
